Dog training tips for housebreaking
and obedience training.

  1. Training your dog can be a rather tiring and trying experience. It doesn’t have to be though if you use the proper techniques and tricks to training your dog. An important thing to remember when trying to train your dog is to be patient and positive. After all, it isn’t like your dog is trying to anger you on purpose.

  2. One of the first rules of dog training is to be consistent. You’ll want to use the same words and tones when giving commands, praises or even telling the dog off. Do otherwise and you might confuse the dog.

  3. As stated above, you have to have patience. A dog can be very quick to understand or take a while to know what it is that you are trying to get it to do. People don’t seem to realize this but sometimes it is the trainer’s fault that the dog doesn’t understand what it is supposed to do.

  4. For the benefit of the dog, ensure that you have a consistent release command to ‘release’ the dog after training or completion of a trick. This is important to let the dog know that it has done well and can now relax.

  5. When you are trying to train your dog, it is important to heap praises on it when it is doing the right thing.

  6. While training your dog, it is common to give the dog a treat or reward for doing well. Ensure that you only treat the dog after the trick has been performed. Otherwise the dog will assume that it can get a treat no matter what it does.

  7. Training should be done in short intervals to relieve stress off from you and the dog. It is advised to conduct dog training throughout the day with each session only lasting from 10-15 minutes.

  8. If you like you can reduce the amount of treats given to the dog but always remember to shower it with love and praises for doing well.
