Dog trick training
-How to go bout teaching and training your dog easy and fun tricks

Dog trick training and fun and easy tricks
you can teach your dogs to perform.

Dog trick training as with other form of dog training is very rewarding. Before you can get to the rewards though, you’ll need a lot of patience, persistence and of course, dog treats like biscuits. Using the reward training method is the best way to teach a dog tricks. But remember to reward the dog with treats only after the trick has been done or the dog will assume that it can have a treat no matter what it does.

Simple tricks to teach your dog:

  • Shake Hands – This is a simple trick that may be a bit old fashioned but a good one to start trick training your dog with. Start by having your dog sit down. Then say, "Shake hands," and take his paw with your hand. Hold his paw and say, "Good dog!" then let go of his paw. Do this several times a day. After a while say “Shake hands” but don’t take up his paw. See if he raises his paw himself.

  • Beg - This trick is a little hard to train so you’ll have to be extra patient on this. Have your dog sit, facing you. Hold a treat just above his head and tell him, "Beg" Your dog will probably lift his front feet off the ground to reach the treat. As soon as the feet are lifted, even a little bit, give him the treat. Each time you try this trick, hold out the treat for a little longer. Don’t try this trick too often though because it can be very tiring for the dog.

  • Roll Over – This is another fun trick you can teach your dog. Remember to only roll your dog on soft surfaces like carpet or grass to avoid injury. Some dogs don’t actually enjoy this trick though because they dislike leaving their belly exposed. So if you’re dog doesn’t like it, don’t push him. Start by having your dog lay down on his belly. Then, kneel down beside him and gently roll him over on his side. Say "Roll over," and lift his legs so his tummy shows. Carefully keep using your hands to roll him over the rest of the way, saying his name and, "Roll over." Then say, "Good boy!" After a bit of training your dog should be able to respond to “Roll over” without you actually rolling him.

  • Wave – A cool new trick to teach your dog is to wave. Before learning this trick though you dog should already know the shake hands trick. First, face your dog and hold out your hand as if you are going to shake. When your dog lifts her paw to shake, don't grab it, just pull back your hand, and say "Wave". Then give your dog a treat. Waving your hand a little may help to get her paw into a waving motion as well.

Remember, training your dog to perform cool tricks is supposed to be fun! So never punish your dog for being unable to perform or if it is taking a while to learn a new trick. Making your dog miserable will not help it learn.
